On the shores of Larder Lake, the Township of McGarry is a destination where history and natural beauty intertwine. Once a bustling hub of the Gold Rush era, the communities of Virginiatown and Kearns were built around the famed Kerr Addison Mine—at one time the richest gold deposit in North America. Though the mine closed in the 1990s, the area’s heritage remains alive through landmarks like the commemorative coin monument and the Tourist Center. Today, the combined communites form the Township of McGarry, where visitors can explore remnants of the area's storied past while enjoying a plethora of outdoor activities set in the stunning miles of forest, field, lake and shoreline.
